The National Weather Service in Charleston has lifted the tornado warning for south central Charleston County.

Spotters had reported a funnel cloud near Kiawah Island moving southwest at 5 mph. But at 8:53 p.m., Doppler radar indicated that the tornadic thunderstorm had weakened.

The Weather Service said the storms are still capable of producing gusty winds, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall. The safest course of action is to remain indoors until the storms pass.
