Charleston police arrested a third man Tuesday in connection with an attempted armed robbery that happened last month at an Ashley River Road apartment.
Yassir Mustafa Elshwafa, 20, of Brandywine Drive in North Charleston was charged with two counts of attempted armed robbery, police spokesman Charles Francis said. He is being held in the Charleston County jail.
The incident happened about 1 a.m. Oct. 21. Police said two people approached a stairwell at Woodbridge Apartments, 2040 Ashley River Road, and saw two masked men come from the lower deck.
One of the men was armed with a pistol, police said. The two ran away from the men and heard shots fired as they fled.
Officers stopped a silver Chevrolet Cruze they saw speed away from the area, Francis said. Officers saw a man run from the passenger side of the vehicle and discard a pistol. The weapon was found, and Brandon Lloyd Daniels, 20, of Larry Street and Lamarkeis Forrest, 19, of New England Drive were charged with attempted armed robbery and first-degree assault and battery, police said.
Francis did not reveal how police determined a third man was involved in the incident or how Elshwafa was tied to the crime.
