A teenage girl accused of stabbing a woman Friday on Charleston's East Side turned herself in Tuesday, Charleston police said.

Police were called to an apartment on Jackson Street about 3:30 p.m. Friday. The victim, a 24-year-old woman, had been stabbed several times in the collarbone and shoulder, police said. She was taken by Charleston County EMS to Medical University Hospital, where she was treated and later released.

Police began looking for a suspect immediately and released the girl's name to news outlets later Friday. The stabbing was a result of an ongoing dispute, police said.

Branee Patrice Scott, 16, of Azalea Road was escorted to the police station Tuesday by a relative, police public information officer Charles Francis said.

She is charged with assault and battery with intent to kill, Francis said. She is being charged as an adult and was being held in Charleston County jail pending a bond hearing set for today.
