Brith Sholom Beth Israel synagogue is hosting a special reception and presentation on the Vengrov Torah, a damaged scroll rescued from a Polish synagogue during World War II, starting at 5 p.m. today at The City Gallery at Waterfront Park, 34 Prioleau St. The event is free and open to the public.

Rabbi Menachem Youlus, who runs Save a Torah, a rescue and restoration organization based in the Washington, D.C., area, will be on hand to explain the history of the Vengrov scroll and describe the work that needs to be done to make it usable again. Once restored, the Torah will be adopted by and housed at BSBI.
