ISLANDTON -- A man accused of killing another man in a dispute about two stolen dogs turned himself in Tuesday.

Kenneth M. Brown, 40, of 4471 Cayce Road is charged with voluntary manslaughter, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and unlawful possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, according to Colleton County Sheriff George Malone.

Deputies responded to Brown's house and found the body of David Dickey, 48, of Orangeburg County. Dickey had been shot multiple times, Malone said.

Witnesses told investigators the victim went to Brown's house about 7 p.m. and confronted him about a couple of dogs that had been stolen from him.

Witnesses said Brown fired several shots at Dickey and then fled in his red 2002 Chevrolet pickup, according to Malone.

Brown surrendered to deputies at 1:30 p.m. He is being held at the Colleton County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Brown was convicted of assault and battery with intent to kill in 1997, according to a State Law Enforcement Division criminal background check. His criminal history shows no other arrests.
