Charleston County sheriff's deputies have arrested one of two men accused of robbing a Seabrook Island bank last week.
Deputies arrested Charlton Dwayne Smith, 21, of Johns Island at a house on English Street in North Charleston about 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Maj. John Clark said.
Clark said the arrest was made with the help of North Charleston police, who had received information about where Smith was staying. Deputies contacted family members and arranged for him to be taken into custody at the home, Clark said. Smith is charged with armed robbery.
Deputies are still looking for Quentin Anthony Gibbs, 21, of Charleston.
The men are accused of robbing the BB&T branch at 1900 Seabrook Island Parkway at 1:20 p.m. Friday. Clark said they are still investigating whether the men were involved in a robbery at the same bank on April 14. The two robberies appear to be similar, he said.
In Friday's robbery, one of the suspects pointed a black handgun at tellers and demanded money. They then fled the bank in a white Ford that was recovered about a mile from the scene.
Affidavits say a witness contacted deputies and identified Smith and Gibbs as the men who robbed the bank Friday.
