The rainy mess left by a dissipated Tropical Storm Nicole ought to give way to sunshine by early afternoon today. Also, expect cooler weather through the weekend.
"Very fall-like weather," said Meteorologist Steve Taylor with the National Weather Service's Charleston office. High will be in the 70s under partly cloudy skies; overnight lows will be in the 50s.
The Weather Service late Wednesday maintained a flash-flood watch and said as much as 1 to 3 inches of rain could fall through the night, but by 5 p.m. only .27 inches was recorded at the Charleston International Airport station.
No flooding worse than puddles was reported when high tide arrived at noon.
The tropical storm fell apart Wednesday afternoon off Cuba only a few hours after it was named. Its rains were pulled into a storm system that passed the South Carolina coast offshore overnight.
