Star Gospel Mission will distribute 500 gift cards Nov. 28 that can be used to buy food at any Piggly Wiggly store. The gift cards are purchased with money from The Post and Courier's Good Cheer Fund.

The annual event draws hundreds of people who begin waiting in line as early as the previous afternoon for a chance to receive one of the $50 gift cards. By the time the doors open at 7:30 a.m., the line usually stretches for blocks from the mission's entrance at 474 Meeting St.

Recipients must be 25 or older and must bring a current photo ID and a Social Security card. Cards are limited to one per family.

This year, an additional 500 gift cards will be distributed to the neediest individuals or families in the tri-county area through the pastors of several local churches.
