No hazardous materials spilled when a truck wreck closed down Bushy Park Road for several hours Monday, officials said.

An 18-wheeler collided with a van about 5:30 p.m., closing the road for about four hours. The collision ruptured a container of fabric finisher, Thom Berry with the Department of Health and Environmental Control said Tuesday. The material is not considered hazardous, he said.

Responders had to prepare for the worst, because the truck was carrying other materials that were highly flammable and explosive, Goose Creek Rural Fire Department Chief Michael Haines said. That's why people were kept at least 1,000 feet from the scene until specialists were called in to clean up the spill, he said.
