Bank of America to close branch

This Bank of America branch on Calhoun Street is due to close in August.

Wonder Works toy store is kicking off the summer with a free family festival this weekend that will feature local entrepreneurs and some new toys for the season.

The event, Wonderfest 2011, will take place 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at Wonder Works, 975 Savannah Highway.

"This is a perfect end-of-school-year and beginning-of-summer kickoff event," says Wonder Works owner Christine Osborne. "It started off as a simple showcase of local entrepreneurs and new hot summer toys, but it has quickly spread to now be the first of what I think will be an annual event."

Kids can play with new summer toys by Wild Creations, Summit and Kik Flix and hear music by local artists Jonathan Robinson, 3 Dudes, Hannah Burten and Katie Blalock.

Also on hand will be silhouette artist Clay Rice, hair accessory designer Abi Keating, T-shirt designer Haley Schmidt and more.

The event includes hot dogs, lemonade, snow cones, manicures and pedicures, face-painting and a jump castle. Pet Helpers will have adoptable dogs and cats there.

In addition, the Monster Mobile Video Arcade Truck will be on site 12:30-3:30 p.m. with interactive video games, and each child in attendance will receive a free toy.

A portion of the day's sales in the store will benefit Abby's Friends and Juvenile Diabetes.
