COLUMBIA — A woman has been found dead after fire burned a house in Columbia.

Fire department spokesman Brick Lewis says Columbia-Richland fire crews were called to the home around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Richland County Coroner Gary Watts is withholding the victim’s name until relatives can be notified.

Officials say the woman was the only person in the home when the fire occurred.

Lewis says the cause of the fire is under investigation but it does not appear to be suspicious.

Damage is estimated at $26,000.
