James Senbeta said he knew he could win by the first kilometer — and by the tenth, that’s exactly what he did.
Senbeta, of Champaign, Ill., was the first man to cross the finish line in the wheelchair division of the Cooper River Bridge Run Saturday morning.
While an official race-time finish has not been confirmed yet, a video of Senbata shows him crossing the finish line at a time of about 25 minutes, 28 seconds.
Last year, Senbeta came close to victory, but lost in the last stretch of the race to Alexandre Dupont.
This year, Senbata crossed the finish line without any competitors near him.
