The Children's Museum of the Lowcountry will host the sixth annual Fam Jam from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday with live music, entertainment, games, activities, good food and more.

This year, Fam Jam celebrates the power of play. The museum's campus, 25 Ann St., will become a giant playground where families will have the opportunity to take part in a series of fun-filled sports challenges, from obstacle courses to water balloon races and a bike rodeo, to win a lifetime membership to the museum.

MUSC's Lean Team and Kids in the Kitchen will be on hand with "kid coaches" to share nutritional games as well as ideas for delicious healthy snacks. Guests are encouraged to ride their bikes to the event to earn Fam Jam bonus points and take part in the bike rodeo held by MUSC Safe Kids, Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments and Charleston Moves.

Entertainment includes performances by Charleston's Electric Company and a special appearance by College of Charleston basketball coach Bobby Cremins for a game of Red Light! Green Light!. News Channel 2's Carolyn Murray will emcee the event.

Tickets are $7 in advance and include admission to the festival, all entertainment and admission to the museum. Tickets may be purchased at the museum, online at or by calling 853-8962, ext. 223. Tickets purchased at the door on the day of the event will be $10.

Proceeds support the museum's 2010 Power of Play initiative that includes scholarships for Title One students to attend the Mission: Nutrition field trips and the CML Play Days after-school program.
