Charleston County has a free new program called Alert Charleston County that allows the public to receive phone and text message notifications about emergencies.
During an emergency, authorities can dial every listed landline phone number within the area affected. But if residents have an unlisted landline, cell phone or broadband number, they must register online to receive messages.
Residents can register for Alert Charleston County by filling out the registration form at alert.charlestoncounty.org, or submit a paper registration at a Charleston County Service Center: 1189 Iron Bridge Road, Mount Pleasant; 4045 Bridge View Drive, North Charleston; or 5962 S.C. Highway 165, Ravenel. Charleston County will not share information with any agency or organization outside Charleston County government.
