A WEB OF AIR. By Philip Reeve. For ages 9-12. Scholastic Press. 304 pages. $17.99.

In this sequel to "Fever Crumb," we catch up to the title character two years after her escape from a war-torn dystopian London.

She is traveling with a theater troupe on a land barge as their lighting expert, but missing out on something. When they arrive in the seaside town of Mayda, she soon becomes embroiled in an attempt to bring back the ancient technology of flight and the fight of the office of suppression to destroy it.

What's good: Plenty of action, adventure and suspense.

What's bad: It is difficult to become emotionally attached to a character with very few emotions.
