Virginia Willis of Charleston submitted the winning entry in Magnolia Plantation and Gardens' contest to name three raccoons in the petting zoo. Because two of the animals are albinos, Willis named the raccoons Snowball, Chance ‘n Nell. Snowball was her first choice and that evolved into a play on words based on a phrase that suggests impossible odds. Willis and her family received the prize of an annual family membership to the gardens. The rare albino raccoons were donated to the zoo by Keeper of the Wild, an animal rescue group in St. George.

The albinos are Snowball, a male, and Nell, a female. Chance is the normal-colored male. A second annual membership was presented to Kayla Hull, a fourth grader at Drayton Hall Elementary School. The judges presented the award to Kayla to acknowledge the attention to detail she gave in preparing her entry.
