Two sisters are accused of kidnapping a woman and assaulting her with a cross during an "exorcism attempt" in Columbia, police say.

Authorities said the suspects held their 56-year-old neighbor against her will for an "extended period of time" and assaulted her upper and lower body with a cross because they believed she was "possessed."

The victim was eventually able to escape and get help from a neighbor after the March 19 ordeal at her home on Lorick Circle.

Her home was in disarray when an officer responded the morning of March 20. The woman said she had not eaten since the previous day because she hadn't been able to prepare meals for herself, according to a Columbia police incident report.

She was treated at a hospital for injuries that weren't life-threatening.

Brittany Jones, 28, was arrested last week on one count each of first-degree assault and kidnapping. She is jailed on $100,000 bail.

Her sister, 26-year-old Tiara Jones, is wanted on the same charges.

Anyone with information about Tiara Jones' whereabouts is encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or midlandscrimestoppers.com.
