GEORGETOWN — Property owners in Georgetown are looking for answers on damage they said was caused by sinkholes.

Local and state leaders met with people affected by the sinkholes this week, including some residents already filing claims over damage to their properties.

Last week, sinkholes began opening up in the city, including one along U.S. 17 that led to the collapse of a store.

The state Department of Transportation was working on a $14 million drainage project nearby, but officials said they don’t know if the work has anything to do with the sinkholes.

The agency said it’s working to find a cause for the damage.
