Shooting suspect held

MONCKS CORNER -- A man police had been looking for since a shooting in July surrendered over the weekend.

Darnell Quintin Reid of Moncks Corner turned himself over to authorities on Saturday, police Detective Sgt. Brad Norvell said Monday. He said Reid was being held at the Berkeley County Detention Center on a charge of assault and battery of a high and aggravated nature.

According to police, Reid, 21, was identified as a suspect in a shooting that sent a man to a hospital. About 8:30 p.m. July 31, police, responding to reports of gunfire in a parking lot, went to Village Apartments at 325 Gulledge St.

Officers found several vehicles and apartments had been struck by bullets, and later a man showed up at a local emergency room with a gunshot wound to the stomach. The victim's identity was not released, but police said his wounds were not life threatening.

An arrest warrant was issued in August charging Reid with the assault, police said.
