MONCKS CORNER -- The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating a shooting that occurred at a boat landing late Sunday afternoon that involved a relative of a state wildlife department officer, authorities said.
The shooting occurred around 6 p.m. at the William H. Dennis Landing, which provides access to the Tail Race Canal.
No one was killed in the shooting that was a result of an altercation, but one person was wounded.
SLED communications director Jennifer Timmons said the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office called in SLED to lead the investigation, even though the case is not being addressed as an officer-involved shooting. The Department of Natural Resource officer related to the shooter was not on the scene at the time, Timmons said.
The wounded man, shot in the abdomen with a handgun, was taken to a local hospital. The shooter also was taken to a hospital complaining of chest pains. Their identities were not immediately available late Sunday.
Timmons said the details of the shooting remain sketchy. "We're still trying to figure out who is the suspect and who is the victim," she said of what led up to the gun use.
Berkeley County identified the shooter as the father of a DNR agent.
