WALTERBORO -- Two people died in separate wrecks on Colleton County roads this weekend.

Kristin T. Jones, 29, of Walterboro died early Sunday from injuries she suffered during a wreck on S.C. Highway 64 just before midnight, said Richard Carter, assistant Colleton County coroner.

Jones was in a sport utility vehicle that ran off the right side of the road and overturned about four miles outside of Walterboro, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins. She was not wearing a seat belt, Collins said.

Jones was the mother of four children.

The second wreck happened about seven hours earlier near the 56 mile marker on Interstate 95.

Carter said Basilie Nimajuan Tucubal, 42, of Guatamala died from injuries suffered in the wreck.

Authorities said Tucubal and three others were in a vehicle heading southbound when they attempted to pull over about 5:30 p.m. because of problems with the vehicle.

Witnesses said the vehicle pulled over and as it did they reported hearing an explosion, Carter said. The vehicle flipped over multiple times.

Another passenger was taken to the Medical University Hospital with a head injury. Two others have been released from local hospitals.

Carter said Tucubal and the others are all in the country legally. He said they were traveling from Pennsylvania to Georgia to meet with a friend who hoped to get them a job picking tomatoes.
