Ravenel -- A large search-and-rescue operation had a happy ending, when an 89-year-old man who was reported missing from his home by a caregiver Thursday morning was found unharmed after a five-hour search.

Maj. John Clark of the Charleston County Sheriff's Office said Lee Hurd, 89, of County Line Road, was found several hundred yards from his house with no apparent injuries. Clark said Hurd apparently wandered away from his home and became lost.

The Sheriff's Office, North Charleston Fire Department, Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad, Coastal Crisis Chaplaincy, Carolina Search Dogs, and Eadytown Fire Department participated in the search. Clark said dog handler Bonnie Laidlaw and her dog Aika played a key role in finding Hurd.
