Scott will lead parade

MOUNT PLEASANT — Newly elected U.S. Rep. Tim Scott will be grand marshal of the town Christmas parade Sunday.

Scott is the state's first black Republican congressman in more than a century.

'I'm honored to be a part of the parade,' he said.

To start the parade, a traditional fireworks display and tree-lighting ceremony will happen at 5:30 p.m. on Moultrie Middle School grounds.

The parade, which will have 113 entries, will begin at the intersection of Coleman Boulevard and Pelzer Drive, continue past Shem Creek and conclude at the Sea Island Shopping Center around 7:30 p.m.

Scott won election in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District on Nov. 2. Other parade grand marshals have included retiring U.S. Rep. Henry Brown, R-S.C., Maj. Gen. Abraham J. Turner and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Maj. Gen. James E. Livingston.
