ST. STEPHEN -- A Nissan Maxima was sandwiched between a school bus and a tractor-trailer Thursday morning after the driver attempted to pass the bus carrying Timberland High School students on a double-yellow line, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol.

The Nissan driver and one student aboard the bus were taken to local hospitals. The wreck happened about 7:40 a.m. on S.C. Highway 45 as the bus finished picking up a student. The Nissan attempted to pass the bus and struck the back of it, S.C. Highway Patrol Cpl. Bob Beres said.

The Nissan veered left and was struck by a tractor-trailer heading in the opposite direction, Beres said. Troopers charged Leslie G. Boone, 43, of St. Stephen with improper passing. The driver of the semi and the 18 other students aboard the bus were not injured.
