COLUMBIA -- The University of South Carolina has established a scholarship in honor of a professor who police say was stabbed to death last month by her ex-boyfriend.

College of Education Dean Lemuel Watson said Friday that the Jennifer L. Wilson Memorial Scholarship will be given to an undergraduate specializing in middle school education.

The college is providing an initial gift of $2,500 to establish the scholarship and eventually will contribute $5,000. Preference for the award will be given to students interning at high needs schools.
