MONCKS CORNER -- Santee Cooper will conduct semiannual testing of its 15 Santee Dam warning sirens in Berkeley, Clarendon and Williamsburg counties today.

The state-owned utility's employees will set off each siren in test mode, which includes about a one-minute siren, a pre-recorded message and a live announcement at the end of the test.

Employees will record information on the wail time, message clarity, completeness and volume for both the pre-recorded and live announcements. The tests will begin at 10 a.m. and last just a few minutes.

The sirens are in place in case the dam fails.
