The National Weather Service expects a moderate rip current for Memorial Day weekend. Forecaster Steve Rowley offers these tips for staying safe:
--Weak and inexperienced swimmers should stay out of the water.
--If caught in a rip current, don't panic. Swimming against the current may exhaust a swimmer and increase the risk of injury.
--Swim with the current and parallel to the shore until the rip current weakens.
--If ability permits, let the current take you out to sea and swim back to shore when the current weakens.
