Reward offered to find shooter

Wheezer, a 9-month-old terrier-mix puppy, was found shot two weeks ago in the Dunes West area of Mount Pleasant. He is being cared for by Pet Helpers, which is offering a $500 reward for information that leads authorities to the shooter.

Steve Carroll, operator of Red’s Ice House restaurants, has been elected president of the board of the Charleston Restaurant Association.

Carroll, who also owns Carroll Consulting, succeeds Michael Saboe, dean of the Culinary Institute of Charleston. Saboe had presided over the CRA since January 2010.

A member of the association’s board since 2008, Carroll has served as vice president since 2010. He has overseen several of the organization’s large events, including the Southern Living Taste of Charleston. A Charleston native, he has been an entrepreneur in the food and beverage industry and the concert promotion industry in the area for the past 25 years.

In a statement, Carroll said he was so involved because “I love what I do and I like to put good people together. The culinary professionals in this town are as good as it gets.”

Association Executive Director Kathy Britzius called Carroll “one of the most hard-working, active and productive board members ... He has been a driving factor in the dramatic growth of the CRA over the past few years.”

The nonprofit group reported that it is at the highest level in its 30-year history in terms of membership and ability to donate to local charities.

The 2012 CRA board also includes David Hayes of LongHorn Steakhouse as vice president and Mike Johnson of Lee Distributors as treasurer.
