WALTERBORO -- Authorities hope an $8,000 reward will lead them to the person who shot a 65-year-old man at a construction site in July.

Randall Herndon is in stable condition after he was shot three times in the back of the head and shoulder while unloading a piece of heavy equipment from a trailer July 16 at J.H. Hiers Construction Co. on Green Pond Highway. Colleton County sheriff's investigators say they are chasing down all leads but haven't received much information lately.

In addition to a $1,000 reward offered by Crime Stoppers, some residents have put up $7,000 of their own money for any person "who plays a significant role in providing information to Crime Stoppers that leads to an arrest in this crime," according to Frank Morea, public information officer for Crime Stoppers of the Lowcountry.
