Residents of a North Charleston apartment complex helped police apprehend a man who was breaking into vehicles early Friday, according to a police incident report.

North Charleston police were dispatched to Osprey Place Apartments on Baker Hospital Boulevard shortly after 1 a.m.

A man was riding away on a bicycle, and another man was chasing him, the report said. A resident told police her car had been broken into a month ago, so she had been keeping her window open so she could hear her car alarm. She heard the sound of breaking glass and went to her window and saw a man breaking into a car, the report said. She said she sent her fiance outside to chase the man.

Glenn Richard Brown, 19, of 4704 Mint St. is charged with eight counts of breaking into a motor vehicle. He was being held in the Charleston County jail.
