Nine people were arrested and five guns were seized Tuesday during a search of eight units at Bridge View Apartments on North Romney Street, Charleston police said.

Drugs with an estimated street value of $18,100 were seized as well as $10,049 in cash, police said. The searches were a result of an ongoing narcotics investigation and police were assisted by agents from several local, state and federal agencies.

Seven residents of the apartment complex were arrested:

Chawn Cherise Washington, 49, is charged with possession of cocaine base.

Ricardo Evans, 23, is charged possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime, possession with the intent to distribute cocaine base, trafficking heroin and trafficking cocaine.

Daquan Brown, 21, is charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and trafficking cocaine base.

Maurico Daval Curry, 29, is charged with possession of a stolen firearm.

Special Deborah Jenkins, 24, is charged with possession of marijuana.

Wanda Simmons was cited for unlawful sale of alcohol and operating a business without a license and Tevon Seabrook was picked up on an assault warrant that was issued by North Charleston police.

The ages for both of them were unavailable.

Also arrested were:

Navarro Bates, 26, of Forest Lane, charged with possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and possession of ecstasy.

Herman Allen Smith, 29, of Casway Lane, charged with possession of a stolen firearm and the unlawful possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

The searches were part of an ongoing investigation to combat narcotics activity in the downtown area, police spokesman Charles Francis said.
