A Charleston police officer suffered minor injuries Monday night when his patrol car struck another vehicle downtown.

The wreck happened about 7:15 p.m. at Carolina and Coming streets, S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bob Beres said.

The officer was treated at a local hospital and released, according to Charleston police public information officer Charles Francis.

Beres said the officer was attempting to make a left turn onto Carolina Street from Coming Street when he struck a Honda.

It was not immediately known Tuesday whether anyone inside the Honda was injured.

It also was not known whether the officer was responding to a call at the time.

The Highway Patrol is investigating. Beres said more details were expected to be released later.
