Police force gets patrol golf cart

  • Updated

SULLIVAN'S Island — Four businesses have teamed up to donate a street-legal, electric golf cart to the town's Police Department.

The environmentally friendly patrol vehicle will be unveiled at 11 a.m. Thursday at the police station, 1610 Middle St.

The Tomberlin E-Merge cart can travel up to 25 mph, gets 40 miles on a charge and can easily be converted to a hybrid that can travel 180 miles on one gallon of gas.

The donation was provided by Tomberlin Automotive Group of Augusta and three Mount Pleasant companies: Palmetto Custom Carts, EcoSense Global Rentals and EcoDrive Global. The value of the cart is at least $12,000, and police will use it for patrols.
