Don't text while driving over the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge or do anything embarrassing while walking along Memorial Waterfront Park's fishing pier. Big Brother might not be watching, but anyone standing in the Mount Pleasant Police Department lobby could.

Screens in the Mount Pleasant Police Department dispatch center recently began receiving a live feed of all eight bridge cameras via the S.C. Department of Transportation. And 20 more cameras keep watch throughout the new Memorial Waterfront Park as a security feature. Police staff a substation during park hours 6 a.m.-11 p.m., but the cameras remain on 24 hours a day.

"We want people to feel safe down there," Sgt. Steve Meadows, Mount Pleasant public information officer said.

So far, police used feeds from the cameras to spot broken-down cars.
