North Charleston police caught a man in the Park Circle area Thursday after he reportedly led them on a chase and then bailed from his car, leaving a 4-month-old inside.
The chase began when a traffic officer attempted to stop a vehicle at Holmes and Durant avenues, according to Spencer Pryor, public information officer.
The driver kept going until he reached Rugheimer Avenue about 8:25 a.m. The suspect then ran from the car, Pryor said.
Officers discovered the infant alone inside the car. The baby's mother, who owns the vehicle, arrived on scene to take custody of her child and the vehicle.
Officers found the man about 8:40 a.m. on Lambert Street.
Police charged Douglas Lavar McFadden, 31, of Charleston with driving under suspension, failure to stop for blue lights and child endangerment.
