North Charleston police officers responding to a report that a couple might be trying to leave a restaurant without paying the tab arrested the pair and confiscated cocaine, a crack pipe and prescription drugs, a police report said.
The incident happened about 3:20 p.m. Saturday on Rivers Avenue. The couple at first refused to pay an $86.89 tab, and when given a last chance to pay were unable to make arrangements, the report said.
Officers who detained the couple found in their car a glass pipe, a bottle with 55 grams of powdered cocaine and two bottles with pills, the report said.
Larry Gene Edens, 47, of Cheviot Drive, North Charleston, and Robin Lynn Mayes, 50, of Lamie Drive, Ladson, are charged with defrauding an inn keeper. Edens also is charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of Schedule III narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Mayes allegedly lied about her name initially, and also was charged with giving false information to police. The report said Mayes was found to be wanted by North Charleston and Summerville police.
