A meeting on the proposed design for the road project connecting Palmetto Commerce Parkway and I-26 is scheduled for Oct. 17. File/Staff

Details of the planned Palmetto Commerce Parkway interchange project will be presented from 6-8 p.m. Oct. 17 at Northside Baptist Church, 7800 Northside Drive, North Charleston.

Transportation officials will have a presentation about the project design at 6:30 p.m. Drawings showing what is planned will be available for review during the drop-in format event.

The project will include:

  • A new interchange on Interstate 26 between U.S. Highway 78 (University Boulevard) and Ashley Phosphate Road.
  • A new westerly connection to Palmetto Commerce Parkway, Weber Boulevard and Northside Drive.
  • Access for future development on approximately 1,000 acres of adjacent property.
  • A safer direct route for workers traveling to facilities in and nearby Palmetto Commerce Park.

The meeting will be an opportunity to see project plans and meet with Charleston County and project team representatives. It is not a public hearing where public comment about the proposed project design will be received. A hearing will be held at a later date.

More information about the proposed design of the interchange was not available, a county spokesman said.

Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2020 and be completed in 2023.
