SUMTER — South Carolina's parks agency is promoting the state by sending two employees on a mission to visit all 47 parks in seven days.

The Item of Sumter reports Gwen Davenport and Kenneth Reed of the Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism started their tour Monday. They spend only about 30 minutes at each park.

The agency says the duo is promoting the photo book 'Beautiful Places: The Timeless Beauty of South Carolina State Parks.” The hardcover, 140-page book can be found in bookstores Sept. 1.

Proceeds go to the nonprofit Beautiful Places Alliance, which funds improvements and programs at the parks.

Davenport is the agency's marketing director. Reed is the retail manager. They are chronicling their Roadshow Tour through social networking sites Facebook and Twitter.
