A North Charleston police officer driving a marked Crown Victoria failed to yield the right of way and drove into an intersection where his car was hit by a man on a motorcycle, said Cpl. Paul Brouthers of the S.C. Highway Patrol.
The collision happened about 7:20 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of U.S. Highway 52 and Old Highway 52 in Berkeley County, he said.
Mark Kluge, 48, of Moncks Corner, was driving the motorcycle and was injured, Brouthers said. He was taken to Trident Regional Medical Center. Brouthers did not know how severe Kluge's injuries were but said the man was wearing a helmet.
The police officer was Anthony Russ, 41. He was not injured and was charged with failing to yield the right of way.
