The name of a man who died late Wednesday when struck by several vehicles on Dorchester Road was released Thursday night.
Richard McKinzie, 27, of North Charleston died of multiple injuries at the accident scene, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Kelky Kraus said.
McKinzie apparently was trying to cross Dorchester Road on foot to get to a gas station, Kraus said.
The accident is under investigation, North Charleston police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. He said officers responded to Dorchester Road, near Apartment Boulevard, shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday and found McKinzie lying unresponsive in the middle of a lane.
Witnesses told police it appeared McKinzie was struck by a number of vehicles. Officers spoke to "several" drivers who may have struck the man, but no charges have been filed, Pryor said.
