North Charleston police arrested a 19-year-old they say shot and killed a Mount Pleasant man over the weekend in a Rodeway Inn motel room.
Daniel Reed, 19, of Dorsey Avenue, was arrested Sunday morning on charges of murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, grand larceny and failure to stop for blue lights.
Police said Reed shot and killed Jesse Weathers, 31, inside a motel room sometime over the weekend. The man's body was found in a room Saturday morning.
While authorities investigated the incident, detectives were able to identify a suspect and located Reed's vehicle in Goose Creek, police spokesman Spencer Pryor said. After following Reed from Goose Creek to North Charleston, police pulled Reed over in the area of Salamander Road and Bentwood Drive.
During the traffic stop, however, Reed and a juvenile male fled from the car. Both were located.
Police said Reed admitted his role in the homicide and that he also told authorities he discarded the handgun involved in the crime somewhere in the woods, which authorities also later found, as he fled police.
The juvenile who was in Reed's vehicle was taken into custody for disturbing the peace, but later released to the custody of his parents, Pryor said.
