North Charleston police are questioning a man they say shot and killed another man he suspected of stealing his car.

Just before 8 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the area of Celestial Court following a report of shots fired. Authorities discovered a wounded man inside the vehicle who had been shot. Nearby, police located the owner of the vehicle, agency spokesman Spencer Pryor said.

The owner, 24, explained to officers he left his car unlocked with the keys in the ignition "for only a moment" when another male drove away in the Hyundai Sonata.

North Charleston police said the owner of the car, who had reported the vehicle as stolen, fired on the driver, killing him.

Police did not immediately say whether the owner will face criminal charges. Neither he nor the deceased were identified Wednesday afternoon.
