A 21-year-old North Charleston man was arrested Monday in connection with a March burglary in West Ashley, police said.
Eugene Francis Benson Jr. of Azalea Drive is charged with first-degree burglary and possession of a stolen vehicle, Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said. Benson is being held in the Charleston County jail. Bail was set Tuesday at $5,000 on the stolen vehicle charge. Bail was denied on the burglary charge as only a circuit judge can set bail on that charge.
According to court records, Benson was out of jail on $20,000 bail after having been charged with possession of a stolen pistol in May.
Francis said Benson was arrested at his home without incident. The burglary occurred March 14 in the Castlewood Townhouses. The car that was used to carry the stolen items away had been reported stolen from Mount Pleasant the same day. The investigation is ongoing, Francis said.
