A man who was found shot late Thursday near where the Crosstown expressway and the ramps to the Ravenel Bridge merge died Friday at a hospital, authorities said.

Cleveland Maynard Richardson, 36, of Warsaw Road in North Charleston was taken to Medical University Hospital after the 10:15 p.m. shooting. He died at 11:40 a.m. Friday from gunshot wounds, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Dottie Lindsay said.

Charleston police released little information about the shooting.

According to a police report, a sergeant on patrol heard a shot and then found Richardson on the ground near the intersection of Poinsette and Meeting streets.

The injured man was unresponsive, the report said.

Police spokesman Charles Francis said officers shut down part of a Meeting Street and spent time "canvassing the area" for evidence. The police seized two vehicles in the investigation, a 2006 Nissan Altima and a 2003 BMW X5, but they did not give further details.

Francis said Friday investigators do not have a suspect but are "gathering information" to that end.
