James V. Edwards, a former North Charleston city councilman, died Wednesday. He was 81.
Edwards, an Army veteran, was a native of Greer and graduated from Spartanburg Methodist College and Furman University.
He was a City Council member from 1974 to 1986, serving as chairman of the Recreation and Parks Committee. After an unsuccessful run for mayor in 1990, Edwards was elected to another four-year term on City Council in 1991.
In addition to his political involvement, Edwards was a customer account representative with the North Charleston Sewer District.
He is survived by his wife, Muyberry Edwards, and two children.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Stuhr's North Area Chapel in North Charleston. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the chapel. Interment will be in Carolina Memorial Park.
