LORIS -- A North Carolina man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for a Horry County crash that killed a 56-year-old Loris man.
Authorities said 25-year-old Timothy Wayne Fowler of Tabor City, N.C., was sentenced Thursday after pleading guilty to felony DUI resulting in death.
Authorities said Fowler was charged June 4 following a head-on crash on U.S. 701 North three miles north of Loris. Troopers said Robert C. Byerly was driving a 2008 Chevrolet June 3 when it was struck by Fowler's 1999 Kia sport utility vehicle.
Authorities said Fowler lost control and crossed the center line, striking Byerly's vehicle.
Coroner Robert Edge said Byerly was pronounced dead at a hospital and had been wearing a seat belt.
