CHESNEE -- Cherokee County deputies say a man posing as a police officer pulled over an elderly man near Chesnee, then handcuffed him to his steering wheel while rummaging through his glove compartment and stealing money.

Sheriff Steve Mueller said the victim told deputies the black Crown Victoria turned on its blue lights as he was driving on state Highway 110 around 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

Investigators say the suspect asked the man several questions before pulling out the handcuffs. After the suspect left, the victim was able to get to his cell phone and call for help.

Mueller says this case doesn't appear to be connected to other reports of a police impersonator in neighboring Spartanburg County.
