MURRELLS INLET — At least two homes were destroyed and two others damaged in a fire at a community in Murrells Inlet.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported that the fire broke out Saturday afternoon in the community of Salters Cove.

Murrells Inlet-Garden City Fire Chief Norman Knight said no injuries were reported.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the fire, which also damaged the playground in the clubhouse area.

Rebecca Warren said people were taking food to the clubhouse area, where a cookout was planned, when she heard what sounded like an explosion and saw a plume of black smoke.
