Mother denied bail in kidnapping case

Briggs

SUMMERVILLE — A woman who was accused of kidnapping her daughter in July was denied bail Thursday.

Megan Briggs, 19, waived extradition Wednesday and was returned to Summerville from North Carolina on charges of first-degree burglary, kidnapping and grand larceny, police Capt. Jon Rogers said.

Police say Briggs entered her grandparents’ home early July 19, took her 2-year-old daughter out of bed, and stole a digital camera, $20 from a wallet and the couple’s 2003 Buick Century.

Briggs’ grandparents have custody of the girl and noticed her missing about 7:30 a.m.

The State Law Enforcement Division issued an Amber Alert about 11 a.m.

Authorities found the woman and her daughter shortly before 1 p.m. in Haywood County, N.C., near the home of Briggs’ biological father.
