More than 1,000 tri-county homes and businesses without power

A pedestrian making a mobile call finds shelter from the rain Wednesday under Market Hall on Meeting Street. Nearly 1,000 homes and businesses in Charleston County lost power in the wake of a line of severe thunderstorms that pushed through the Lowcountry Wednesday afternoon. Also, lightning damaged an apartment in Summerville on Wednesday night, forcing a family of four to move to other quarters, authorities said. The bolt struck Timberlane Apartments, off of Old Trolley Road, and caused structural and electrical damage, a power outage, and a small, smouldering fire.
